In 1997, a group of business and community leaders saw the need for a locally owned community bank and consequently started First Security Bank of Owensboro. In 1998 a second location was opened on South Frederica.
The original founders envisioned a community bank that provided the very best in customer service while offering essentially the same products and services more commonly found in much larger financial institutions.
With this goal in mind, in just a few years, First Security grew in assets in excess of $140 million with only 2 locations. Capital doubled to nearly 13 million with around 250 shareholders. And the bank went from last in market share to 9th with competition from 14 banks in the market.
John Edge, a life long resident of the area is the President and CEO of the Owensboro bank. M. Lynn Cooper, a career banker with experience in both community banks and super community banks and multi bank holding companies, is the President and CEO of First Security Inc, the bank holding company. Mr. Cooper joined the company in January 2007, and was recruited to provide leadership for the bank holding company to expand beyond Owensboro, and Daviess County, Kentucky.
In the fall of 2007 the company announced a merger with a small bank in Southwestern Indiana, and then initiated plans to open a new office in Evansville, IN. around the 2nd quarter of 2008.
First Security recognizes the value of “high touch” banking, which includes providing the most current technological services and at the same time providing individualized and personalized customer service on a local basis.
